Summary
I am a graduate student at the 91·çÃùÄñ³ª, pursuing a master’s degree in World Languages and Literatures with a focus on Spanish and Portuguese. Originally from Guatemala and of Maya heritage, I was born during the country’s civil war, an experience that has shaped my interest in language, memory, identity, and the ways communities understand and heal from difficult histories. I believe language is a powerful tool for preserving culture, fostering dialogue, and building understanding across differences. At the Latino Research Center, I support administrative and financial operations while contributing to community-focused initiatives. I am also a Rotarian of more than 15 years and the founder of a Rotary club and two nonprofit organizations that promote child nutrition, education, and community development. Looking ahead, I hope to continue exploring the connections between language, historical memory, peacebuilding, and reconciliation through research and community engagement, while supporting efforts that strengthen and empower diverse communities at the 91·çÃùÄñ³ª, the state of Nevada, the country, and internationally.

Soy estudiante de posgrado en la Universidad de Nevada, Reno, donde curso la maestría en Lenguas y Literaturas del Mundo con énfasis en español y portugués. Originaria de Guatemala y de ascendencia maya, nací durante la guerra civil del país, una experiencia que ha influido profundamente en mi interés por el lenguaje, la memoria, la identidad y las formas en que las comunidades comprenden y sanan historias difíciles. Considero que el lenguaje es una herramienta poderosa para preservar la cultura, fomentar el diálogo y construir puentes de entendimiento entre personas y comunidades diversas. En el Centro de Investigación Latino (Latino Research Center), apoyo las operaciones administrativas y financieras, a la vez que colaboro en iniciativas orientadas al servicio y fortalecimiento comunitario. También soy rotaria desde hace más de 15 años, fundadora de un club Rotario y de dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro dedicadas a promover la nutrición infantil autosostenible, la educación y el desarrollo comunitario. A futuro, espero seguir explorando, a través de investigación y el compromiso comunitario, las conexiones entre el lenguaje, la memoria histórica, la construcción de paz y la reconciliación, contribuyendo al fortalecimiento y empoderamiento de comunidades diversas en la 91·çÃùÄñ³ª, Nevada, estado de Nevada, el país e Internacionalmente.
