Founded in 1986, the Balloon Race Scholarship Committee is a volunteer-powered unit at the 91·çÃùÄñ³ª that supports undergraduate and graduate students through annual scholarship awards, funded by proceeds from selling raffle tickets, commemorative pins and Sparks Florist's 12 Months of Flowers cards.

The 2025 91·çÃùÄñ³ª Balloon Race Scholarship Committee pin thoughtfully weaves together symbols that celebrate Reno’s rich history and vibrant culture. Featuring the retro 1963–1987 Reno Arch, Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain, Morrill Hall, and colorful hot air balloons, the design reflects both the city’s iconic skyline and the annual Great Reno Balloon Race. Each element connects to a different chapter of Reno’s story—from neon-lit nights and outdoor adventure to academic excellence and cherished community traditions.
We’re excited to introduce Aidan Nierman, the designer of the 2025 commemorative pin! Aidan will begin studies at the 91·çÃùÄñ³ª this fall with plans to pursue a master’s degree in Geology. A recent graduate of AACT High School’s Graphic Design program, Aidan combines a creative eye with a lifelong passion for volcanoes, earthquakes, and rocks—and hopes to turn that passion into a career as a seismologist.
