The 91·çÃùÄñ³ª Environmental Health & Safety Occupational Health Program provides information and resources for personnel who have potential occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals, environments, and biological agents.

The Occupational Health Surveillance System (OHSS) is a computer-based system for conducting a risk assessment and corresponding medical evaluation for employees with exposure to animal biohazards, other workplace or laboratory exposures and required/voluntary use of respirators. OHSS assessments are medically evaluated by third-party physicians practicing in the area of Occupational Healthcare under a professional services agreement with the University. There are agreed upon services, rates and fees for the evaluation of each OHSS assessment. Please contact your department prior to performing an OHSS evaluation in order to determine how the cost of the OHSS assessment will be paid (i.e. department funds, grants, etc.)

Personnel wearing respirators, either voluntarily or required, must be fit tested before the respirator is used in the workplace. Contact the Industrial Hygienist, Christa Hartman, at cristahartman@unr.edu or (775) 327-5192 to set up an appointment at the respiratory fit testing room in the Applied Research Facility, room 212.

Personnel who wish to decline participation in occupational health surveillance, the respiratory protection program, hearing conservation, hepatitis B vaccination, etc., should contact the Med Safety Officer, Andy Giddings, at (775) 327-2326 or jgiddings@unr.edu.
