Summary
My work focuses on developing and implementing evidence-based programs to improve the nutritional health of school-age children and adolescents in Nevada. I emphasize reducing health disparities by addressing poor diet quality, food insecurity, and the social determinants of health. Through applied research, community engagement, and Extension programming, I aim to advance equitable access to nutritious foods and support the well-being of youth and families, particularly in underserved and at-risk communities. I joined Extension and the College's Department of Nutrition as the Nutrition Specialist for Southern Nevada.
Before joining the University, my academic and professional experience focused on multidisciplinary, mixed-methods research at the intersection of nutrition, public health, and behavioral sciences. I have worked on food and eating behaviors, nutrition education, program development and evaluation, food security in minority populations, sustainable diets, and the double burden of malnutrition. My background also includes food sensory evaluation and applying kinesiology concepts to understand behavioral and psychosocial aspects of health and nutrition.
