Faculty and staff opportunities

The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) and the 91·çÃùÄñ³ª offer the following opportunities to faculty members interested in helping to internationalize our campus.

Don't forget that you can also help promote study abroad to your students by requesting a classroom or event presentation from a USAC staff member.

Summer Visiting Professor Program (Teaching Abroad)

Through a USAC Visiting Professor (VP) program, UNR professors can teach a summer course abroad in one of our selected Specialty program locations. This unique opportunity creates connections with foreign colleagues, enhances foreign language acquisition, strengthens and supports international education and study abroad on campus, diversifies course curriculum, and develops international relationships for research and other purposes.

Program details

  • Full-time assistant, associate, or full UNR professors may apply.
    • Faculty under LOA contracts are not eligible to participate in this program.
  • Teach one class during the summer.
  • $6,000 stipend.
    • The stipend is compensation for teaching and may go toward related expenses (i.e. flight, housing, meals, etc.).
    • VPs will make and pay for all their own travel, housing, and personal arrangements. USAC may assist with finding housing depending on need.
  • CISI health insurance included.
  • Program locations are already predetermined, and specific course and/or topics are selected.
  • Applications will open in February each year. The deadline to apply will be in April.
    • Selected applicants will be notified in June.
  • Communication regarding applications, deadlines, and course opportunities will be sent via email, including a link to apply.

VP requirements

Applicants are required to submit a statement of approval from their department head/chair. A sample template for this statement can be found on the application form.

The course selected faculty are chosen for, will only run with 5 or more students enrolled by the application deadline, therefore, faculty are required to actively assist in student recruitment on U.S. campuses and beyond. USAC will provide recruitment materials and a workshop on best practices for reaching enrollment.

USAC will announce the VP and course availability via regular USAC communication channels. However, it is incumbent upon VPs to work actively with USAC to reach this goal.

Global Educator Opportunities: Faculty-Led Program

USAC has been providing world-class, award-ranking study abroad programs to students for more than 40 years, and now we’re offering another way of getting students (and faculty) abroad. If you’re interested in organizing, leading, and teaching a UNR undergraduate cohort abroad, you can now collaborate with USAC to create a faculty-led program.

Program details

  • The program development process begins 12-18 months prior to program departure.
  • Time abroad lasts between 1-3 weeks.
  • Program maintains an academic focus.
  • Geared toward undergraduate degree-seeking students.
  • Enrolls a minimum of 10 UNR students.

Guidelines for UNR Faculty Program Leader

  • Faculty Program Leader identifies the course and credit load.
  • USAC helps with developing the program and marketing and recruitment on campus.
  • Students apply and are approved for the program through the Faculty Program Leader.
  • Faculty Program Leader must have approval from their department chair to collaborate with USAC on a faculty-led program.
